In Japan, she was introduced to the aesthetic beauty of Ikebana by taking lessons in the Ikenobo School while in high school. In the U.S.A., she joined the Wafu and Aratame Schools and later studied in Japan under Soko Kobai Naruse and Kosen Naruse of the Chiko School.
