Westland House Arrangements

Yoshiko Williams, Sogetsu School

Yoshiko believes that flower design gives energy and creative joy.

During her childhood in Japan, she picked up a magagzine and saw pictures of Ikebana flower arrangements.  She liked one flower arrangement best among the many arrangements.  That arrangement was designed by Sofu Teshigahara, the founder of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana flower arrangement.  Many years later, Ms. Williams met Mrsw. Soho Sakai, a Sogetsu Ikebana teacher in San Francisco, was attracted by her demonstration and became a student.

She became an Ikebana instructor in 1990 and she took on Hogetsuas her official Sogetsu flower name.  Now she hold the Sogetsu Ikebana's school's "Komon" rank.

She taught Ikebana at Portland Community College in Oregon and currently teaches at the College of San Mateo and San Mateo Garden Center.

She has done many demonstrations and workshops in the Bay Area, California, Oregon and Washington State.

Currently, Yoshiko designs for the Fioli Flower Show annually and for the Bouquets to Art at De Young Museum in San Francisco.

She is also a member of AIFD (the American Institute of Flower Designers) and does floral work for weddings and special Events.
